Tapouts FieldTrip

Help students handle big emotions — starting at your school.

FieldTrip and Wonderful Foundations are partnering with tapouts to bring science-backed, coach-led social-emotional learning into a school-day experience — group sessions, games, and reflection that help students name feelings, build confidence, and practice coping tools alongside peers.

tapouts is a skill-building program, not therapy or clinical counseling. This FieldTrip introduces SEL tools in a school-day format and does not replace school counseling or mental health services.

Why This FieldTrip Matters

Every student faces big emotions — in friendships, at home, and in the classroom. Social-emotional learning gives kids practical tools to understand themselves, manage stress, and show up with confidence.

Tapouts FieldTrip brings tapouts’ proven group-coaching approach into schools: age-appropriate pods, game-based activities, and certified coaches who make SEL engaging — not a lecture.

Emotional regulation

Students practice recognizing feelings early and using breathing, naming, and cool-down strategies before reactions escalate.

Self-awareness

Kids build language for what they feel and learn how emotions connect to thoughts and behavior.

Empathy

Peer group format helps students listen, perspective-take, and support classmates with respect.

Confidence

Small wins in a safe coached environment help students trust themselves in tough moments.

Resilience

Students learn that setbacks are normal and practice bouncing back with intention.

Communication

Guided dialogue teaches kids to express needs without shutting down or blowing up.

About the Experience

An interactive, coach-led session designed so students actually want to participate.

Led by tapouts-certified coaches, the FieldTrip adapts tapouts’ weekly live group model for a school-day visit. Students join age-banded pods, move through game-based stations, and practice real tools they can use the same day — no worksheets required.

  • Welcome assembly and introduction to tapouts SEL approach
  • Age-banded small groups (aligned to elementary, middle, or mixed campus bands)
  • Game-based emotion-naming and regulation activities
  • Breathing, cool-down, and coping-tool practice with coaches

Meet tapouts

tapouts is a weekly live group coaching program for children ages 4–16, built on research in psychology, neuroscience, and education. More than 50,000 families have used tapouts to help kids turn meltdowns into confidence — through fun, social sessions kids actually enjoy.

Co-founder George Moringer founded tapouts after discovering how social-emotional learning changed his own childhood. The program is developed with clinical leaders including Dr. Maggie Vaughan (Head of Youth Transformation) and Dr. Marissa Ericson (Head of Efficacy), grounding every session in evidence-based SEL and CBT principles.

What Students Learn

Emotional Regulation

Recognize body signals before a meltdown and use coached tools to calm down.

Self-Awareness

Name feelings accurately and connect emotions to choices.

Empathy

Practice understanding classmates’ experiences with curiosity instead of judgment.

Growth Mindset

See mistakes and hard moments as part of learning, not proof of failure.

Communication

Express needs and boundaries with words that reduce conflict.

Coping Tools

Leave with breathing, grounding, and cool-down strategies they can reuse.

From the tapouts Community

“Only on our 4th session and I've already seen a huge positive difference. The other day we were able to identify and address feelings and have a discussion instead of a meltdown!”

Jacqueline, tapouts parent

“We had an amazing experience with tapouts. My daughter did weekly sessions for over two years. She truly loved her connection with her primary coach, Coach Jenny.”

Jen DeBuhr, tapouts parent

“Most parents notice a difference within 4 weeks. Calmer mornings. Fewer meltdowns. A kid who can actually name what they're feeling.”

Program Format

  1. Pre-Visit Planning

FieldTrip works with the school to confirm grade bands, group size, space, and alignment with counseling or wellness goals.

  2. Live Tapouts FieldTrip Session

Certified coaches lead age-banded pods through game-based SEL stations, regulation practice, and guided reflection.

  3. Reflection & Engagement

Students debrief what they learned and identify one tool to try before the end of the school day.

  4. Impact Storytelling

FieldTrip captures outcomes, student reflections, and optional media — plus family resources for continuing with tapouts at home.

School & Home Connection

The FieldTrip is a powerful on-ramp — and tapouts’ weekly live group sessions extend learning at home. Families who want ongoing support can explore tapouts’ age-banded pods separately; schools receive optional take-home resources so parents know what students practiced.
